Division: Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream (OCC) The Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream is a multi-purpose, neighborhood resource center serving a low-income, ethnically diverse neighborhood. Services include counseling, casework, mentoring, community development, services for older adults and after-school and summer programs for children and youth.   Job Responsibilities:   The College Coach & Retention Specialist will assist the Program Director in the development, implementation, and ongoing supervision of the College Opportunity Program (COP) which is designed for high school and college age students from the Carol Stream neighborhood with the goal of successfully launching students into college or vocational training and career. Responsibilities include building and maintaining effective relationships with students, parents, colleges & universities, and employment work sites; guiding students and parents through the college application and entry process; ongoing communication and support for students who have entered higher education or vocational training programs; assisting students with career preparation activities (internships, job shadowing, college/ career discovery) and creating monthly reports.   Requirements: A passion for resourcing and guiding students who may be the first in their family to envision college. Ability to develop effective relationships with high school and college age students. Flexibility to respond to students outside of regular business hours. BA/ BS/ BSW degree; previous education or guidance counseling experience a plus; sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, high-risk and culturally diverse backgrounds. Strong relational and networking skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel. A current, valid driver’s license is required along with a good driving record and reliable vehicle. Ability to travel in and out of state to visit students. A commitment to OCM’s Statement of Mission and Faith.   Status: Part-time at 20 hours per week. Schedule to include 3-4 days per week in the afternoons and Thursday from 5:30-8:30pm. Travel required: annual spring break college tour, 3-4 out of state trips to visit students on their college campus.   Compensation: The hourly rate for this position falls between $17.75 and $19.25 based on education, skills and experience.

Responsibilities include building effective relationships with students, parents, schools and community partners; student recruitment for academic and summer programs, academic assessment, curriculum development, and instruction using creative methods; staff, intern and volunteer supervision; collaboration with site-based education team focused on program development and coordination, and implementation and documentation of all grant requirements. This position reports to the OCC Executive Director.   Requirements: A passion for working with junior high students. Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or youth ministry; at least three years of previous classroom teaching or group experience with adolescents; previous supervision experience with staff, interns or volunteers; sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, high-risk families and culturally diverse backgrounds. Strong planning and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Valid IL driver’s license and insurance, good driving record and reliable vehicle. Division: Puente del Pueblo - Outreach Community Ministries partners with Wheaton Bible Church and Iglesia del Pueblo to form Puente del Pueblo, which serves the residents of both the Timber Lake and Main Park apartment complexes in West Chicago.  Programs include case management, adult literacy, ESL tutoring, after school programs for elementary and junior high students and community events.  OCM provides the leadership staff for this program.    Job Responsibilities: The Junior High Teacher will build relationships with a group of 15-18 students and facilitate learning in an after school program. Duties include academic tutoring, homework support, life skill building, problem solving, Christian education, parent communication and recreational activities.  The Junior High Teacher is also responsible for maintaining Puente’s standard of classroom behavior during program time.  Additional responsibilities include coaching and managing volunteer tutors in the classroom . Requirements: A passion for working with junior high age students; Bachelor’s degree in education, youth ministry or a related field; previous classroom teaching experience with youth, sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, culturally-diverse families and backgrounds. Previous experience facilitating experiential or service learning strongly preferred.  Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.  A Commitment to OCM’s Statement of Mission and Faith is required.    Status: Temporary, Part-time at 25-29 hours/week, M – F, 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm with occasional weekend meetings. Hours vary during school breaks and holiday weeks. Division: Warrenville Youth & Family Services (WYFS): WYFS is a multi-purpose community service agency serving the residents of the Warrenville area in Chicago’s western suburbs. Programs include the Community Counseling Center, Case Management Assistance, Hispanic Outreach, Mentoring, and Quest - an after-school/summer-school program for middle school aged youth.     Job Responsibilities: The Junior High Teacher will be a member of the Quest staff providing after school and summer school services to at-risk junior high students in the Warrenville community. Responsibilities include working with groups of students in academic instruction, community service, life skills instruction and recreational activities, transporting students to and from the program as well as behavior management and team building activities. Additional responsibilities include record keeping, tuition tracking and fee collection.                                 Requirements: BA in Education, Social Work or a related field; classroom or group experience with adolescents; experience with and sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, high-risk families; strong organizational and communication skills. Valid IL Driver’s License, good driving record and proof of insurance. Spanish language skills a plus. Basic computer skills. A commitment to OCM’s Statement of Mission and Faith is required.   Status:   Part-time at 25.5 hours per week Monday – Thursday from 1:30pm-6:30pm and Fridays from 1pm-6:30pm. Position runs from August 12, 2019 - May 29, 2020. Hours vary during school breaks and holiday weeks. Some evening or weekend hours are required for special events and other program needs.
