Scope of Work
The Family Pastor contributes to the Mission of Waukesha Bible Church by (1) shepherding the families with children (birth to 18 years old), (2) coordinating ministries to support our families, equipping them to be theologically and relationally healthy, and (3) serving them through a ministry of word and prayer.
- Shepherding – While the watch-care of the flock is the collective responsibility of the Elders, the Family Pastor is the primary Elder who cares for and invests in the families with children birth to 18 years old in preventative, precautionary, and proactive measures that requires his presence.
- Ministry Coordination – Oversees all student ministries to serve our families and equip our students. While ministries and programs may change, current ministries under his oversight are: childcare, junior church, Awana, and youth ministry.
- Word and Prayer – The ministry of the word and prayer takes a high priority regardless of the audience or platform. The Family Pastor is the primary Elder who oversees all curriculum and resources used within the ministry programs. He will also participate in the sermon development team to strengthen the pulpit and will preach and teach in rotation. Prayer will be a natural and regular part of his care for this church family.
SHEPHERDING RESPONSIBILITIES
- The care of shepherding requires the Family Pastor to know the flock and be present in their lives which will take many forms and involve time, energy, and presence. For example,
- Being present during important moments or milestones in their lives (i.e. graduations, sporting events, extra-curricular activities, open houses, baptism, etc.)
- Being available as students and families need support, counseling, or care of any kind.
- Being observant and proactive when working alongside the parents to care for their kids as they experience various seasons of life.
MINISTRY COORDINATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees all student ministries to ensure families are cared for through these programs. All ministry coordinators and/or team leaders serving in these various ministries will work with and report to the Family Pastor. He ensures that the student ministry policy and procedures are consistently followed so families, students, and those serving are operating out of the same playbook. Students participating in these programs are under the primary watch-care of the Family Pastor.
- Ministry and Program specific:
- Childcare – The purpose is to provide a safe and caring environment for all kiddos while parents/guardians are participating or serving in other ministry opportunities. The Childcare Ministry Coordinator will work with the Family Pastor to ensure the policy and strategy is the most effective for our families.
- Junior Church – The purpose is to provide an age-appropriate understanding of the local church for our kiddos from K-5th grades. A primary goal is to allow the parents to engage in the corporate worship service with fewer distractions, which will directly impact how they parent and lead their homes. A primary goal for the kiddos participating in junior church is to provide a similar experience as the corporate worship service at an age-appropriate level, so they will grow to value the priority of the gospel, biblical teaching, singing, praying, and fellowship together in community.
- Awana – The purpose is to provide a midweek connection for students from 1st-6th grade to further strengthen their understanding of the Bible through teaching and memorization, along with opportunities to build relationships with their peers.
- Youth Group – The purpose is to provide opportunities for junior and senior high students to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus through in-depth biblical study and by building healthy relationships within the church. This ministry is committed to serving the families of WBC by equipping their teens for life and ministry to:
- know and enjoy God
- understand the gospel and its implications
- be equipped to competently study the biblical text
- connect with the corporate gathering in meaningful ways.
- Helps develop and oversee ministry budgets under his oversight.
WORD AND PRAYER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching and preaching opportunities will take a variety of forms. Primary teaching will take place within the ministry programs the Family Pastor oversees. Secondary teaching will take place within the adult ministries and as part of the pulpit rotation.
- Participates in the sermonic development team. This team meets weekly to develop sermons in community to strengthen the pulpit (see the handout: “Developing Sermons in Community – A Playbook from Hermeneutics to Homiletics”).
- Ensures all curriculum for the ministries under his oversight is age appropriate and consistent with our Theological DNA.

About Waukesha Bible Church
Waukesha Bible Church is a Christ-Exalting, Word-Centered, Grace-Based, Global-Impacting Fellowship.
Within a family, members of that family share similar traits and characteristics since they share common DNA. However no two siblings (unless identical twins) share identical DNA. There are nuances that make each person unique. We celebrate what we are as a local church and as part of one global church family, as well as what we are as an individual personality within this one family. Some of our DNA we hold in common with all Evangelical Christians. Nevertheless, there are things about us that make us uniquely us, even within the larger context of what makes us Christians.
