The Need + Why
Serge teams in East Africa are in need of teachers for the children of mission team members. If you are interested, please apply. If you know someone who is interested, please send them our way (go@serge.org). When missionaries do not have education options for their children, they often have to leave the field prematurely or pull back significantly in their ministries. To support our missionaries, Serge fields teachers to provide high-quality education for “missionary kids” and enable missionaries to focus on their ministry. Teaching MKs is a unique opportunity to serve missionary teams in a vital way and to make a massive impact on the academic, personal, and spiritual development of these children. “Missionary Kid” teachers are invaluable members of our mission teams. Being part of a team provides you with a meaningful social life, shared prayer and worship, and the strength of working cross-culturally together.
We support MK teachers in a variety of ways during their term, including:

Teachers may take on a range of subjects and grade levels, creating a one-of-a-kind classroom experience not found in traditional schools. In remote areas, MK teachers are encouraged to think outside the classroom, using the surrounding landscape as an educational tool.
Requirements and Critical Qualities:
A degree in education or a related field is preferred; a teaching license is a plus. Serge’s Missionary Kid Teachers juggle multiple grade levels and subjects, so we are seeking individuals who are skilled at managing a wide variety of student needs and subjects. Candidates would ideally have at least 1 year of U.S. teaching experience at the start of applying and 2 years experience by the time of deployment. Serge MK teachers are passionate about teaching kids (and caring for third culture kids in particular), flexible, adaptable, collaborative, and excited to be in a close-knit community of MKs and their families.
Serge is an international missions organization that sees God weaving together the frayed edges of our tattered world with His goodness, creating something beautiful.
At Serge, we believe we need the gospel as much as anyone else. It was while doing cross-cultural, team-oriented ministry that we discovered how challenging it is to be grounded in a biblical identity as sons and daughters of God—so, we began to develop discipling resources to preach the gospel to ourselves – so that we could go into the broken places of our world to reach souls, renew hearts and restore communities.
Today, our work consists of sending and caring for missionaries, mentoring and discipling ministry leaders around the world, and developing gospel-centered resources — such as Sonship and The Gospel-Centered Life — for on-going gospel renewal.
