Job Description

How would you like to use your expertise as a dentist to impact someone’s life for the better?

As a supported* dentist, you would provide quality dental care to missionaries to help further the work of Bible Translation in Papua New Guinea.

Today, over 2000 people groups, 170 million people, still don’t have the Bible translated into their languages! Wycliffe USA believes the Word of God can transform lives when people hear it in their own language or form, and we urgently need you to join the team!

Job Location: Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea

Even though this job is located overseas, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States as per U.S. employment laws.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • Properly diagnosing patients.
  • Constructing molds for crowns with proper tooth anatomy.
  • Completing dental surgeries when appropriate, including but not limited to root canal therapies, tooth extractions, fillings, crown placements, and gum treatments.
  • Mixing various dental materials and medications as needed.
  • Providing routine maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Monitoring inventory of dental supplies and initiating the ordering process.
  • Conducting dental examinations and dental cleanings/scalings.
  • Placing occlusal sealants.
  • Doing dental bridgework.
  • Administering local anaesthetic for dental procedures when necessary.
  • Exposing and processing dental x-rays and interpreting findings.
  • Opening teeth determined to need endodontic treatment and treating appropriately.

This job might be for you if…

  • You have a university dental degree
  • You have had specialised technical training by a dentist for at least two years. 
  • You have a professional level of personal cleanliness, hygiene and dress.
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English. 
  • You have a sound understanding of treatment procedures and infection control measures.
  • You are knowledgeable in first aid and dental surgery emergency procedures
  • You are flexible and willing to learn. 
  • You’re able to, with sensitivity, relate and communicate cross-culturally.

It’s a bonus if…

  • You have had a dental residency or several years in practice.
  • You have a commitment to Christian principles and a desire to further Bible translation.
