What is the Serge Apprenticeship Program?
The Serge Apprenticeship Program is an 18-24 month intensive missions training program that provides an opportunity to serve on an existing ministry team and grow in the gospel. Through ministry service, 1-on-1 mentorship, cross-cultural training, and a lifestyle of prayer, the Apprenticeship Program raises up future long-term ministry workers who are thoughtful, prayerful, and sustainable. Our vision for Prague
Prague is an international city, drawing people from around the world with its beauty, history, culture, and economic opportunities. It is also the capital of one of the most atheistic countries in the world: approximately three-quarters of the population identify as atheists. Planting churches in this city brings together people of diverse national and spiritual backgrounds, offering them the opportunity to see and experience the gospel lived out in the context of a believing community.
The Serge teams in Prague focus on reaching both the Czech and international communities with the gospel. Faith Community Church was planted in 2007 as an international church. In 2017, the church sent out a group to start a bilingual church plant, DoSlova. Both churches also partner with other local groups for outreach through mercy ministry.
What does an Apprenticeship in Prague look like?
- Enter the context of a church planting team and serve as a support to the work, with ministry placements in church planting support, youth and children, and/or discipleship and evangelism to peers
- Join weekly Serge Apprenticeship classes for equipping and prayer
- Get a taste for language learning as you tackle survival Czech
- Explore ways mercy ministry can further the outreach of the local church
- Process and grow through 1-on-1 mentoring with a seasoned missionary
Overall, the Prague Apprenticeship prepares and propels someone toward a life of ministry with skills that help you cross cultures both at home and abroad.
Who is the Apprenticeship in Prague for?
- Followers of Jesus who are becoming Christ-dependent, Spirit-empowered, and passionate for the Kingdom of God – at home and abroad
- Those who are considering long-term international ministry
- College graduates OR individuals with two years of independent living behind them
- Ordinary individuals or couples who aren’t afraid to ask questions
- Those who are prepared to be stripped down of what they understand about themselves and the cultures they have been and will be involved in
- Servant leaders who are desiring to be a part of a community and team
- People who are willing to be flexible and have a learner posture
Language requirements: None prior to arrival, but you will study introductory Czech in all placements, and further study will be necessary in some.
Support Raising
As a Serge Apprentice, you are paid a salary. Apprentices are required to raise 100% of their salaries, ministry expenses, and administrative expenses to serve overseas. The amount you need to raise can vary significantly depending on the country of service, marital status, experience, and job requirements.
When you are appointed to go with Serge, you are assigned a Support Coach who will guide you step-by-step through the entire support-raising process, with regular calls for check-ins and prayer. We know it can be daunting, but we also believe there’s no better way that the Lord prepares us for the field. You can expect challenges and growth in this journey, but you can also expect a dedicated mentor along the way. You will never be walking it alone.
