Nicaragua Christian Academy

Nicaragua Christian Academy is an association of three EE-12 Christian schools in Central America. The first school, NCA International, is a English-language Christian missionary school with a dual mission to (1) educate missionary kids, and (2) train up future leaders of Nicaragua. NCA International was founded in 1991 and became the first ACSI-accredited school in Central America; it is also accredited with SACS/AdvancED. NCA Nejapa and NCA Matagalpa (founded in 2005 and 2013, respectively) are Spanish-language schools with the same mission to train up future leaders of Nicaragua. Between the 3 schools, we are now serving the educational needs of over 1,100 students!

Our goal is that all of our students will have opportunities to use computers and technology as tools for learning, both in their classrooms and in an instructional lab environment. Our program includes weekly 30 to 40-minute computer classes for preschool through sixth grade. The elementary classes have a strong focus on using computers as an extension of their classroom learning. For instance, preschool students play educational games designed to reinforce their English language skills including colors, numbers and alphabet letters and sounds. In the elementary grades, we continue using educational games to reinforce classroom concepts, and also start to introduce computer-specific skills such as keyboarding, word processing, and use of presentation tools, spreadsheets, and other productivity software. We have adopted the use of Google Apps and are also teaching our students how to use Microsoft Office and Open Office. We have several semester-long computer electives that we...

Our students are 55% Nicaraguan, 30% North American and 10% Asian; the rest come from 18 different countries in Latin America and around the world. Because of these demographics, English is the second or third language for about two-thirds of our students. Most of them develop their English abilities in our school beginning as three-year-olds in preschool. However, at times we accept students who have lower levels of English, and some students who have been in our school since preschool still struggle with the English language more than their classmates, resulting in deficiencies that need to be addressed. he ELD (English Language Development) program is primarily a pull-out program, in which students needing individual attention are sent to the ELD classrooms for 30-50 minutes during the school day. This usually happens during their regular Language Arts class, elective class or another subject area. Qualifications ● 4-year degree in TESOL/ESL/ELL/ESOL/EFL, Elementary...
