Family Empowerment

1533 West Devon Avenue, Chicago, IL, USA

Founded as a non-profit 501(c)3, in 2003, Family Empowerment Centers is a faith-based community resource center & church.  We exist to glorify God and love our neighbors by raising up leaders and compassionately caring for and empowering under-resourced families and their children.  We have various partnerships with other non-profit, faith based agencies that overlap with our organizational objectives and they include the Christian & Missionary Alliance, Envision, and the South Asian Friendship Center.

We believe that all people matter to God and want to be an encouragement to those who are hurting, burdened by life, or in need of a hand to help them back on their feet. We believe in demonstrating God’s love through tangible, practical means that may be of assistance to others in time of hardship. For this reason, we employ both a macro and micro level approach to address the many needs present in the community in ways that both honor God and encourage those receiving support in times of crisis.

The Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago is one of the most ethnically and socio-economically diverse areas in all of Chicago. Located on the North Side of Chicago, Rogers Park is 1.8 square miles in total land mass. Home to a wonderful array of cultural diversity, the population of Rogers Park is defined as 32% white, 30% black, 28% Hispanic, and 10% other. This richness lends itself to the vitality of cultural experiences found within city streets, on which it is common to hear any number of the 80 languages spoken by this neighborhoods 63,000+ residents.

While the neighborhood is slowly undergoing gentrification, the stark reality is that Rogers Park carries a disproportionately high poverty rate of 20%--well above Chicago and national averages. Given our context in which 64% of children under the age of eleven live in households below the poverty line, many of our outreach efforts focus on strengthening urban families facing challenges that would be insurmountable without help. We do so from a holistic perspective, offering programs and services that empower clientele served in an emotional, spiritual, academic, or financial capacity. Our programs fall under the following categories: Community Care, Physical Care, and Spiritual Care. Through our programs, services, and events, we touch the lives of more than 2,500 people annually.
