Lakewood has its roots in the early 1960s, growing from a small Bible study composed of a few families. At that time, Baxter was a rural, fast-growing area and these families felt a strong sense of the Lord’s leading to build a local church.
Our church is staffed by two pastors, three directors, and 10 support staff. Lakewood has a mixture of traditional and contemporary music performed by a team of volunteers and led by an Interim Worship Director. Our church consists of 340 members with around 500 regular attendees. Lakewood has vibrant ministries for children and students with about 130 attending regularly.
For over 30 years, Lakewood has made a commitment to give 25% of all general fund receipts to support our Missions program, which includes 40 local, national, and global missionaries and ministries. Lakewood has a congregational governance structure where members vote on important church matters. We are governed by a Board of Elders, currently consisting of seven men who are elected by the congregation to three-year terms.
Lakewood is blessed with wonderful facilities, including a dedicated Children’s Ministry wing, a large social gathering area and kitchen, numerous classrooms, staff offices, ample parking, and a large Sunday gathering hall. The facilities are well-maintained, owned debt-free by the church, and located on a 12+ acre campus in the heart of Baxter.
