First Evangelical Church of Memphis exists to glorify Jesus Christ and magnify His gospel in all of life until He comes.

Vision is a matter of paying attention to God (and neighbor and one another). Direction articulates aims that result from this attentiveness. Mission then implements or turns the aims into actions.

By “glorify Jesus Christ,” we mean the believer in Jesus is to have Christ at the center of his life, the central preoccupation of life. This includes enjoying Him and following Him in everything, developing the allegiance of faith more than mere assent.

By “magnify His gospel,” we mean professing the reality that God has broken in on the world in the way, truth, and life of Jesus, radically altering human existence because God has made power for change available in His Son. The gospel is the transactional and transformational, propositional and experiential means for getting right with God and living righteously before Him.

By “in all of life,” we mean God’s people are to be marked by increasing attentiveness and responsiveness (doctrinally, morally, and relationally—the comprehensive areas of repeated biblical emphases) to everything Jesus wants, assimilating His wisdom for living and applying it to everything we do, are, and have.

By “until He comes,” we mean maximizing existing opportunities and creating new ones to spread His reign in hearts, anticipating His rule over all at His return for which we alertly wait.
