Ministry of the Word - The Pastor will be the primary preacher for the church and will be committed to sound doctrine and to exposition of Scripture that is relevant, authentic, and applicable and will oversee and coordinate all services and administration. First Baptist Church of Martinez was started August 29, 1926, as a mission outreach of Thousand Oaks Baptist Church in Berkeley, CA. An exciting period of growth began in 1942 with plans for a new church building at our present site in Martinez. The first phase consisted of the educational building, kitchen, fellowship hall, front lobby, offices and was completed in August 1947. Work on the sanctuary began in September 1948. The Sanctuary was dedicated in October 1949 and the Church continued to grow over the next 40 years. During this period First Baptist Church started four other mission churches including three in Concord and one in Martinez. Pastor James Day is currently serving as Transitional Pastor and has been helping us prepare the way for our new Pastor.
