 Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts

Job Description 

The Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts will serve as the “producer” of each worship service, and lead our church family as we worship our great God in both spirit and truth.  In addition, the candidate will partner with our Technology Coordinator to assist with various graphic design needs and also provide oversight and leadership to our Connect Ministry.

Working parallel with the Lead and Administrative Pastors, the Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts will build the overall direction of service structure including all thematic and creative elements. The candidate must be a visionary who is creative in leading people to worship and exalt God. The candidate must be a leader who can communicate direction in a way that inspires those around them to join in the pursuit of the overall worship vision. The candidate should value biblical truth, congregational engagement, cultural relevance (modern band format, current song selection) and a variety of contemplative and celebrative song selections.  The Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts must understand and follow God’s desire for leadership in the church as outlined in 1Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and be willing to serve and materially contribute within a team leadership structure.  The Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts will work closely with the Lead Pastor, Administrative Pastor, and the Elder Board to fulfill the following description:

Personal Qualifications:

  • A passionate, growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ as evidenced by a vibrant prayer life, a heart for lost people, and a love of God’s Word
  • A heart for ministry and a desire to engage the spiritual formation of those in the congregation and the worship ministry
  • A commitment to sustained excellence and quality
  • A teachable spirit, a willingness to seek the counsel of others when needed and a submission to authority

Education:

  • Primary consideration will be given to candidates with a college degree in worship music or a related area.
  • Theological education is preferred but not required.

Experience Expectations: 

  • Leadership of corporate worship
  • Preparation and rehearsal of music, vocalists, and instrumentalists
  • Development of other worship leaders
  • Development of talent from a variety of age groups
  • Organizing and leading teams of people
  • Growing and maintaining a ministry
  • Sound, video and lighting design 
  • Graphic design, video creation/editing, and social media
  • Planning Center and ProPresenter software

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Ability to apply general knowledge of sound, video, graphic and lighting design to service and social media needs
  • Ability to administer and communicate with staff and volunteers
  • Ability to study, interpret, and apply God’s word in a practical way
  • Ability to relate to people from differing backgrounds, worship experiences, and ages
  • Ability to inspire an enthusiastic and inviting worship environment
  • Ability to demonstrate self-motivation by initiating appropriate actions while communicating with the entire pastoral staff
  • Ability to work well with a team with a positive attitude
  • Ability to create and execute an overall vision for the worship ministry

Responsibilities:

Worship Ministry

  • In coordination with the Lead Pastor and Administrative Pastor, bring vision and direction for the future of Grace Point’s Worship Ministry that is aligned with Grace Point’s overall vision.
  • Lead worship for church services 
  • Recruit, develop, schedule, and equip musicians, sound techs, media techs to execute weekly worship services. 
  • Direct all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate worship in services.
  • Provide coaching and oversight of the training of volunteers (vocalists, instrumentalists, and audio/visual technicians).
  • Music/tech coordination for special services and events.  Examples could include: Kids Camp, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve.
  • While valuing the old, introduce new songs and ways to worship our Savior.
  • Partner with Lead Pastor and other Pastoral Team in brainstorming of creative components for use in weekend services.
  • Oversee the worship ministry budget, organization, and volunteers. 
  • Maintain licensing for copyrighted worship elements (music, video, streaming, etc.).
  • Nurture spiritual growth of team members in their relationship with Christ through discipleship, mentoring, caregiving.
  • Oversee worship tech equipment maintenance. 
  • Establish annual goals and objectives in line with our stated vision/mission/core values.

Creative Arts/Tech

  • Assist the Technology Coordinator with social media, website, and live streaming 
  • Assist the Technology Coordinator with video production
  • Oversee the design and implementation of staging for high impact services such as Christmas and Easter.
  • Consistently look for new ways to introduce and use the creative gifts of our congregation, incorporating, for example, special music, children’s specials, and dramas throughout the year.

 Connect Ministry

  • Provide oversight and leadership for the Grace Point Connect ministry.  The Grace Point connect ministry exists to help create a welcoming place for all who attend our Sunday services.  The ministry’s goal is to welcome, inform, and serve existing members and guests.  The oversight and leadership of this ministry Includes recruiting, training, and scheduling Connect volunteers for Sunday services.  Connect volunteers include greeters, ushers, and welcome desk attendants.

Working Relationships:  

The Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts shall be directly accountable to the Administrative Pastor and will demonstrate professionalism while interacting and cooperating with all employees, the Grace Point community, vendors, and visitors. The Pastor/Director of Worship & Creative Arts will faithfully operate within the bounds of the Grace Point EFC Constitution and By-laws, Employee Handbook, Mission, Vision, Core Values, and the direction of the Lead Pastor, Administrative Pastor, and the Elder Team.

Working Environment:

  • This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40-50 hours per week.
