Christar Church Ministry Residencies bridge the gap between education and effective, real-world service. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, theological training and cross-cultural exposure, residencies offer churches and recent college graduates a framework for developing effective ministry skills, all in the context of relationships.
International Internship Program
The Internship Program is a full-time, ten-month training program (August–May) designed for individuals from overseas churches who are exploring or preparing for cross-cultural ministry. This program offers immersive training in one of the world's most diverse cities, equipping men and women as faithful servants of God's Word who can effectively make disciples in multicultural contexts.
Program Structure
The program combines hands-on ministry experience with targeted cross-cultural training. Approximately half of the intern's time is spent in supervised ministry within the church; the other half focuses on cross-cultural evangelism, discipleship, and additional training.
Training Components
Supervised Ministry Experience: Hands-on ministry in a primary area with an experienced supervisor providing direction, observation, feedback, and coaching.
Group Training: Regular intern development sessions focusing on theological, ministry, and mission topics.
Word Ministry Opportunities: Opportunities to teach God's Word with guidance and feedback.
Multicultural Team Ministry: Integration into the church's diverse ministry teams, working alongside believers from many nations.
Cross-Cultural Components
Cross-Cultural Evangelism: Regular opportunities to engage in neighborhoods with mentoring and feedback.
Cross-Cultural Discipleship: Opportunities to meet with and encourage believers from various cultural backgrounds.
Supplemental Training: Additional readings and training beyond the standard curriculum.
Optional Study: Interns may choose to enroll in the Foundations Year at Gulf Theological Seminary or pursue language learning (Arabic or Urdu) for 6–8 hours weekly. These would be funded separately by the intern.
Likely Areas of Service
Discipleship with Young Adults: Walking alongside students and young professionals in their faith through community groups and one-to-one meetings.
Ministry and Teaching with Kids, Tweens, and Youth: Serving in our children's and youth ministries through teaching, leading small groups, and building relationships.
Welcoming and Connections: Helping newcomers connect with the church family through follow-up, hospitality, and discipleship.
Outreach in the City: Joining experienced teams to share the gospel in the city's diverse neighborhoods.
Program Specifics
Duration: 10 months (August–May), with arrival in early-August for visa processing and orientation. It may be possible to extend the program for a subsequent 2nd school year.
Supervision: Direct oversight by ministry area leaders with overall program coordination by the Pastor for Training.
Funding: Fully funded by the intern's sending church or personal support-raising.
Application: Candidates must be recommended as deacon-qualified by their sending church and apply through the application form and interviews of both Christar and the host church.
Logistics: The host church will provide guidance for visa applications and assistance in finding shared accommodation.

About the host church:
It is a gospel-centered, Bible-teaching church planted in 2010 and is made up of believers from all nations, ages, culture, and backgrounds. It is our unity in the gospel of Christ that makes us all one family. Our hope from the very beginning was to make disciples of all nations. A decade later, we are celebrating the fruit that God has brought about.
Every weekend, people from among the nations gather together to encourage one another, sing God’s praises, confess our sin, pray for our members and our leaders, and hear from God’s word. We have members from Africa, Asia, Australia, and America; from Sri Lanka, India, the Philippines, Kenya, Egypt, and beyond. This multicultural context provides a unique training ground for those preparing for cross-cultural ministry anywhere in the world. Our God has promised to redeem people from every tongue, tribe, people, and nation and we have the privilege of seeing the fruit of God’s redemption every week. We also have many people who would not describe themselves as Christians come to our weekend service—and we are happy to welcome them. In Christ Jesus our members have found a family, and we would love to welcome you as God in Christ has welcomed us.
Our mission is to establish churches in least-reached communities—those without access to a fellowship of believers that proclaims the gospel in their language and in a culturally relevant way.
We exist because our Savior is worthy of worship, yet over 40% of the world’s people can’t glorify His name because they’re cut off from the good news of Christ. Why? Their communities don’t yet have churches that proclaim the gospel in their language and in a way that’s relevant in their culture.
That’s why Christar seeks to see churches not merely started but firmly established so they can continue to multiply the reach of the gospel long after our workers are gone. As we pursue this mission, we partner with local congregations, helping them send workers “in a manner worthy of God” (3 John 1:6). This involves providing structure that facilitates effective service, strategy that guides their efforts and support that helps them thrive.
We serve among the least-reached Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, refugees and the Deaf around the globe. Our workers are currently ministering in Central Asia, Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, North and West Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
WHY CHRISTAR?
1. PASSION FOR THE LEAST-REACHED We want those who are without access to the gospel to hear, accept and be transformed by it. Our conviction that every community should have the opportunity to learn of the hope found only in Jesus drives us to embrace challenges and opportunities to bring this good news to those who haven’t yet encountered it.
2. PARTNERSHIP WITH SENDING CHURCHES The church sends missionaries. Christar is blessed to come alongside the local congregations as they take part in God’s global work. We provide structure, strategy and support for churches and individuals who go, send, pray, and give.
3. STRATEGEY FOR ESTABLISHING ENDURING CHURCHES Christar’s primary task is to establish churches that endure and multiply. Workers are trained in a model, known as Polaris, that helps church-planting teams create strategies that fit their ministry contexts. It’s not a one-size-fits-all structure but a framework that helps teams evaluate methods, principles and tactics and form an approach in light of the culture and worldview of the people they’re seeking to reach.
4. TRAINING AND CARE Christar is committed to equipping workers sent by local churches, so they are well-prepared to face challenges on the field and equipped for thriving in life and ministry. Through ongoing training and member care, we foster workers’ health and growth at every stage of their life and ministry.
5. PRAYER We recognize we can’t accomplish the work the Lord calls us to in our own strength. So, Christar values a humble dependence on God, a growing love for Him and a serious commitment to prayer. Every missionary serving with Christar has a team of 100+ people who have committed to praying for them every day.
