Short-term missionary (Guest Volunteer)
Job description
World Gospel Outreach is always looking for individuals who feel called to serve in a short term capacity as a Guest Volunteer. Guest Volunteers can be anyone aged 21 years or older and is a legal U.S. citizen who will be doing missionary work in Honduras or Belize. The primary responsibility of this person is to provide an extra pair of hands and feet for the full-time missionaries and Honduran and Belize staff members. Overall, this role is meant to fill in and supply the needs when WGO staff is unavailable, especially during busy seasons. Duties can vary depending on the requirements and needs of Serve Teams and staff members. Flexibility is required, as the schedule is subject to change with or without notice. Hours may also vary and include times in the evening depending on the specific needs. Not all duties and responsibilities listed below will be assigned to a Guest Volunteer during their stay. Although there will be an effort to provide a schedule of assignments and duties, Guest Volunteers should expect to be flexible and help whenever and wherever necessary.
The essential requirements and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential/Key Responsibilities include:
● Communicate, collaborate and assist staff to help them be successful with team visits and activities
● Assist with kitchen, cleaning, laundry, or other housekeeping duties as needed and directed
● Assist with cooking and cleanup as needed
● Participate in outreach events as directed and needed, which may include serving in the serve team stations (such as medical, dental, pharmacy, optical, evangelism, children, constructions, etc.)
● Assist with outdoor and facility maintenance as needed
● Promote teamwork and communication by encouragement and example
Required Skills/Abilities include:
● Support and agree with the Statement of Faith and Beliefs of World Gospel Outreach
● Flexibility and willingness to do what’s needed, regardless of the task (according to the individual’s abilities)
● Be culturally minded and respect local culture etiquette
● Great interpersonal and relationship skills
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team
● Ability to multitask
● Humility in spirit and communication
● Come with no expectations or agenda. This is completely a servant-oriented position
● Familiarity with Microsoft software is helpful in some applications
● Leadership skills are helpful in some applications
● Functionally bi-lingual in Spanish and English is helpful in many applications, but not required
Education, Experience & Other
● Be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ
● Be 21 years of age or older
● Be a U.S. citizen
● High school diploma or equivalent (unless otherwise specified)
● Be self-funded through personal funds and/ or through the support of family, friends, church, etc.
● Previous missions experience is helpful, but not required
