Global Effect Ministry is seeking Christian college students and young adults who feel called to serve God through a hands-on, cross-cultural ministry internship in the Dominican Republic.
Interns will serve alongside our Dominican leadership, staff, and local church partners, gaining practical ministry experience while contributing to ongoing programs and initiatives in the communities where Global Effect serves.
This is a servant-oriented ministry position. Interns should come prepared to listen, learn, work hard, and serve wherever needed. The internship is not simply a mission trip; it is an opportunity to become part of the ministry team, develop leadership skills, build meaningful relationships, and experience what long-term, locally led ministry looks like.
Primary Responsibility
Intern responsibilities may vary based on the needs of the ministry and the intern's gifts, skills, and experience. Responsibilities may include:
- Use your gifts, skills, and talents to serve Christ and advance Global Effect’s mission.
- Gain hands-on, cross-cultural ministry experience by serving alongside Dominican staff, leaders, and local church partners.
- Build meaningful relationships with children, youth, families, church leaders, and community members.
- Assist with evangelism, discipleship, youth and children’s ministry, and community outreach.
- Support local churches as they plan and implement sustainable ministry initiatives within their communities.
- Serve alongside and assist visiting U.S. short-term mission teams, including preparation, ministry activities, projects, and team support.
- Participate in camps, outreach events, ministry programs, and other community initiatives.
- Assist with water-filter distribution and data collection in communities we serve alongside local churches.
- Develop and apply skills in areas such as leadership, communication, organization, media, photography, videography, or social media.
- Assist with ministry, administrative, logistical, and organizational projects as needed.
- Work collaboratively as part of a ministry team while also taking initiative and responsibility for assigned projects.
Flexibility is essential. Schedules and responsibilities may change based on ministry needs, visiting teams, community activities, and other circumstances. Interns should be willing to help wherever they are needed and where their gifts can best serve the ministry.
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Be actively involved in a local church.
- Have previous short-term missions experience.
- Have previous ministry experience through a church, school, or community organization.
- Demonstrate a genuine heart for serving others.
- Be humble, teachable, dependable, and hardworking.
- Be flexible and willing to do what is needed.
- Work well independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Respect Dominican culture, customs, leadership, and local communities.
- Be comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment.
- Be willing to learn from Dominican staff, pastors/leaders, students, and community members.
- Come without an agenda or expectation of directing the ministry.
- Demonstrate maturity and good judgment.
- Be willing to serve outside of their preferred area or skill set when needed.
Spanish/English bilingual ability is beneficial but not required.
Spiritual Expectations
Global Effect is a Christ-centered ministry. Interns are expected to:
- Profess faith in Jesus Christ.
- Support Global Effect's Statement of Faith and Christian beliefs.
- Represent Christ and Global Effect with integrity and humility.
- Participate appropriately in ministry, discipleship, prayer, and outreach activities.
- Maintain Christ-centered character in all interactions with staff, students, community members, and mission teams.

A Servant's Heart
Global Effect's ministry is locally led. Our Dominican staff, leaders, and church partners understand the communities we serve because they live there, work there, worship there, and raise their families there.
Interns are not coming to the Dominican Republic to provide relief to a community. They are coming to come alongside the work already being led by Dominican nationals and leaders.
We are looking for interns who are willing to listen before leading, learn before teaching, and serve before being served.

General Information:
- The internship will be in La Vega, Dominican Republic and surrounding communities.
- Internship opportunities will be open from June - August.
- Interns can serve for a minimum of 4 weeks and up to a maximum of 8 weeks. The cost of the internship is $1,500 for 4 weeks and $2,000 for 8 weeks. This includes lodging, food, in-country transportation, translators, and project cost while in the Dominican Republic.

Our internship opportunities give students hands on cross cultural experience in areas such as discipleship, leadership development, education, community development, and missions, while providing opportunities to grow spiritually and professionally through serving in a locally led ministry.
