Job Summary
The Pastoral Residency at Eastport Baptist Church (EBC) is a full-time, 1-year position designed for a young man who is discerning and preparing for pastoral ministry. The pastoral resident will serve under the direction of the Lead Pastor and elders, with the primary goal of assisting in the general ministry of the church and gaining practical experience in pastoral leadership and care.
This role will be tailored to some extent based on the resident's gifting, future ministry goals, and the specific needs of Eastport Baptist Church.
Areas of Responsibility
The Pastoral Resident will be involved in various aspects of church life to develop a well-rounded understanding of pastoral ministry, which will include:
- Teaching and Discipleship:
- Assisting with the EBC Students ministry in teaching and prayer.
- Teaching a Sunday School class on occasion.
- Participating in weekly staff meetings for prayer, planning, and learning.
- Worship and Preaching:
- Preaching on occasion under the guidance of the Lead Pastor.
- Helping plan and lead worship gatherings.
- Administration and Care:
- Assisting in administrative tasks as needed (e.g., coordinating volunteers, updating policies, planning events).
- Assisting the Lead Pastor and Elders in general pastoral leadership, shepherding, and congregational care.
- Participating in monthly elder and board meetings.
Qualifications
- Theological Commitment: Adheres to the doctrinal statement, goals, strategies, and vision of Eastport Baptist Church.
- Character: Demonstrates the qualifications of an elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, possesses a servant leadership mindset, and works well with a team.
- Gifting: Possesses gifting for pastoral ministry, including teaching, leadership, and shepherding.
- Interpersonal Skills: Has the ability to relate well with multiple generations and resolve conflicts.
- Commitment to life-long learning and personal growth.
Education and Experience
- Formal biblical and theological training is preferred, but not required.
- Some practical experience in spiritual leadership and discipleship in a local church context is preferred.
Duration, Compensation, and Supervision
- Term: Full-time, 1–year duration.
- Compensation: Housing and a weekly stipend will be provided for a single man or young couple.
- Supervision: The pastoral resident will be under the direct supervision of the Lead Pastor.
