POSITION SUMMARY: This role is responsible for managing the live media production and technical operations of the church. This includes operating and maintaining AVL (audio, visual, light) systems, producing the worship service livestream, and troubleshooting both AVL and general IT (software, hardware, and network) issues. This position ensures that technology is appropriately maintained to support worship services, special events, online experiences, and office activities for conducting ministry.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) preferred in fields like audio engineering, media production, broadcast technology, communications, IT, or a related area Associate's degree, relevant certifications, or equivalent experience will be considered.
- 3–5+ years (often 4+ years minimum) of hands-on experience in live production, AVL (audio-visual-lighting), technical direction, or similar roles; experience in a church/worship setting
- Prior work in live sound mixing, video production, lighting design, or multi-camera live streaming environments.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in core church production tools and systems, such as:
- Digital audio consoles (e.g. Behringer, X-32, Ableton, Mac iOS, P16’s – I.G.M.).
- Presentation software (e.g., ProPresenter).
- Video switching, streaming platforms (e.g., Restream, YouTube), cameras, and editing (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro).
- Lighting control (e.g., GrandMA, Chamsys).
- Signal flow, troubleshooting AV equipment (mixers, mics, projectors, amplifiers, LED walls), and digital networking (e.g., Dante).
- General IT knowledge: computer/network troubleshooting, G-suite/Microsoft tools, basic cybersecurity, and equipment maintenance/repair.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly, adapt systems to evolving needs, and suggest upgrades.
Spiritual and Personal Qualifications
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a mature, growing personal faith and active involvement in church life (member of New Hope Church within 3 months of employment).
- Alignment with the church's mission, values, vision, doctrinal statement, and ministry philosophy.
- A servant-leader mindset: humility, spiritual maturity, and a heart for using technology to enhance worship and discipleship (rather than just "running tech").
- Willingness to provide spiritual care, encouragement, and shepherding to volunteers and team members.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Part-time flexible hours, with on-call flexibility. Available for weekend services and special events. Days off are posted on the staff calendar. Onsite weekly worship and staff meetings are an expectation. Living in close proximity to the church and its body is strongly preferred. The position is nonexempt and reports to the Associate Pastor. Dedicated office space is available for onsite work when desired or helpful.
Physical ability to lift equipment (e.g., up to 50 lbs), set up/tear down, and be present for services/events (including weekends, holidays, rehearsals).
Willingness to undergo background checks and adhere to church child protection/safety policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
1. Administration, Leadership & Collaboration:
- Schedule media volunteers and staff for services and events.
- Train and support volunteers in audio, video, and streaming operations.
- Participate in worship planning and staff meetings.
- Coordinate with worship leaders and pastors regarding service flow, stage layout, microphone placement, and camera angles.
- Update inventory and recommend technology purchases.
- Responsible for expense approvals, budgeting, and oversight of the general funding of hardware software, licensing, subscriptions, etc.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Pastor.
2. Live Production
- Provide high-quality‑ live media production for worship services, events, and meetings.
- Operate and oversee audio, video/visual, lighting, and presentation systems.
- Mix audio, operate cameras and video switchers, manage lighting as applicable, and run presentation software such as ProPresenter.
- Support a seamless, distraction-‑free worship environment for both in-person‑ and online audiences.
- Start, monitor, and optimize livestreams using Restream across platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.
- Manage multi‑camera switching and maintain quality of broadcast workflows.
- Record services and events and prepare files for editing and uploading.
- Collaborate with the Social Media Specialist to ensure consistent, timely, and on-brand‑ online content.
3. Set up, test, and configure AVL and computer equipment for:
- Services, events, and meetings.
- Perform sound checks, video tests, and system verification.
- Tear down, store equipment properly, replace batteries, and reset systems.
4. AVL/IT Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide real-time support for audio feedback, dropouts, signal loss, video issues, software crashes, and streaming / Wi-Fi disruptions.
- Troubleshoot AVL and IT problems during live services to prevent interruptions.
- Support users with hardware, software, and network issues across Windows/macOS, printers, email, and mobile devices.
- Diagnose and resolve issues from password resets to system failures.
5. Equipment Maintenance, Inventory & Installation:
- Clean, repair, and maintain microphones, cameras, cables, computers, projectors, and related gear.
- Track inventory and monitor equipment condition.
- Document status and report major issues.
- Install new and/or replace old equipment.
6. Software, Network & Systems Oversight:
- Support staff onboarding and offboarding, including device setup, Microsoft 365 access, and license management and access removal upon termination.
- Assist with church management software.
- Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 administration.
- Install, configure, and maintain workstations, printers, peripherals, and applications.
- Manage updates, antivirus, and system security.
- Support and monitor building network infrastructure and Wi-Fi performance.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Associate Pastor will supervise the work of this position. The Technical Arts Manager will be assessed at three (3) months, six (6) months, and then annually thereafter by the Associate Pastor. A written report will be provided and explained. Should the Technical Arts Manager feel mistreated by any staff, church member or committee in the church, the Technical Arts Manager may discuss any grievances confidentially with the Pastor’s Cabinet.
