In 2022, Bethany Bible Church celebrated 65 years of ministry in the Belleville Michigan community. The church has been located at its present site since 1959. The church was first known as Bethany Community Church. Then as Bethany Baptist Church in the mid 1960’s and has been known as Bethany Bible Church since 1984. Bethany (BBC) is an independent non-denominational, evangelical, congregational-governed body and is a member of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America.
The typical Sunday morning 11:00am worship service consists of a blended, mostly contemporary style of worship with relevant life application sermons. Sunday School classes, for all ages, are held at 9:45am each Sunday. “Life Groups,” our small group ministry, meet Sunday nights bi-weekly, in homes throughout the community. BBC has a more traditional Wednesday night teaching and prayer service which starts at 7:00pm. AWANA Boys and Girls Club, and the Youth Group, also meet on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year. There are various men’s and ladies’ Bible study opportunities at BBC throughout the week.
The BBC adult Choir sings during each Sunday morning worship service (except for summer months) and has a long-standing ministry in both the church and community. The BBC worship team has many talented musicians and vocalists and ministers each Sunday.
The BBC Youth Group is led by a group of church volunteers. The Youth Group meets every Wednesday from 6:30-8:00pm for a time of games, worship, and teaching. They annually participate in off-site youth retreats, as well as local, regional, and international short-term mission trips.
BBC has a strong emphasis on missions with over 30 families and missionary organizations receiving monthly financial support. Fifteen percent of BBC’s annual budget (which this year totaled over $90,000.00) goes to their supported missionaries. BBC members and friends have also participated in short term missionary ventures.
A significant children’s outreach ministry is the Bethany Day Care Center, which began in 1974. It has an enrollment of approximately 150 children from the community. The Day Care has multiple pre-school sessions and a morning kindergarten class. Bethany Day Care has the freedom to teach God’s Word, without apology, hosts children’s 5-day clubs, Release-Time classes for the neighboring elementary school, and feeds into the AWANA and Sunday School programs. The Day Care has an excellent reputation in the community and has served as an invaluable first contact into the lives of many of our church families.
Another significant BBC children’s outreach ministry is a basketball program called “B3” (Belleville Basketball at Bethany) for children K-6th Grade. More than 150 church and community children participate, on Saturdays, during the winter months. At B3, kids and parents hear a gospel presentation weekly.
Belleville is a small town with a population of 3,500 people. It is surrounded by Van Buren Township, which has a population of approximately 30,000 people. Belleville is located 30 miles west of Detroit, Michigan.
The church is located just outside of the Belleville City limits on approximately ten (10) acres of land. Our sanctuary built in 2015 seats 560 people. In 2015, BBC also constructed an administrative office wing along with a new nursery/preschool area, library, conference room, choir room, and several adult classrooms. BBC also has a multi-purpose gymnasium with an adjoining kitchen. The Gymnasium was built in 1981 and has a seating capacity of 400 people. The Day Care operates from the Family Ministry Center; an 8,800 sq. ft. educational wing built in 1998. This has five large classrooms (dividable), administrative and AWANA offices, Great Room, and kitchen which is used for more intimate dinner settings (showers, parties, etc.). Three playgrounds surround the Family Ministry Center and a softball field is located to the rear of the property. BBC has ample paved parking for 220 vehicles. We are extremely grateful for the campus that God has blessed us with.
