Assistant Pastor of Children & Youth Ministries (Youth Pastor, Full Time)

Who We Are:
Cornerstone Chinese Church is an independent, nondenominational church of 150
members including 20 children and 15 youth located in Villa Park, Illinois (a western
suburb of Chicago). We are a family church with three congregations: English, Mandarin,
and Cantonese speaking. Given present demographics we are anticipating growth in our
children and family ministries. We recognize the critical importance of building a strong
foundation and a nurturing ministry for our children and families as integral to the overall
spiritual growth of our church family. We have a unique blend of cultural heritage and a
multi-generational membership that loves one another in the name of Jesus Christ.

Summary Statement:
The Youth Pastor is a full time position that coordinates children and youth programs from
1st grade through high school. The Youth Pastor will work closely with the Pastors, Christian
Education Committee, and lay leaders to plan, develop and execute the overall children
and youth ministries of the church in accordance with the mission and vision of Cornerstone CC.

Qualifications:
• This person should be of good Christian character evidenced by living an exemplary
life according to the word of God and a commitment to Jesus Christ, shown in part,
through active participation in the life of a church. Candidates must meet the
character qualifications for elder leadership as outlined in Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and I Peter 5:2-4.
• The person shall be in total agreement with the doctrinal statement of the Cornerstone CC and be willing to abide by its Constitution and Bylaws.
• Training and passion to minister children and youth is highly desired. The candidate
must have a college degree. A degree in Christian Education, Youth Ministry, or
theology is strongly preferred.
• Effective communication in preaching and teaching skills in one-on-one and group
settings with students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
• Demonstrate good organizational, administrative and planning skills.
• Show strong leadership skills and the ability to recruit, motivate, support, equip,
disciple, and direct both adult and youth volunteers.
• Fluent in oral and written English. Chinese language not required.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide spiritual nurturing through biblical instruction, counseling, and
discipleship.
• Ensure the quality of the Cornerstone CC programs below.

o Children’s Ministry
Plan, coordinate, and lead a children’s worship service every Sunday for children 1st to 6th grade. This includes providing a prepared short sermon lesson and working with a song leader and other helpers.

o Youth Christian Education Ministry
With the Christian Education Committee, plan, oversee, and supervise the Sunday school programs for 1st grade through high school. This includes recruiting, equipping, and mentoring of lay teachers and helpers to grow a quality Children’s Sunday school program. Develop a comprehensive 1st
grade to high school curriculum.

o Youth Group Ministry
Primarily responsible for a junior high/high school youth group program that meets regularly on Saturday nights. This involves prepared messages and mentoring youth leaders to help them mature in their faith.

• General Responsibilities
o Assist in coordinating and executing special children and youth events as required.
o Provide clear communications with parents and church leadership on
program and ministry status and effectiveness.
o Fulfill English congregation pulpit duties as necessary as back-up to English Pastor
o Prepare and oversee an annual budget for each ministry for church leadership approval.

Accountability:
The Youth Pastor position is accountable to the Senior Associate Pastor, Raj Christodoss.

Evaluation:
The Church Board will conduct an annual performance review.

Salary Range:
A competitive annual salary plus benefits, depending on experience, pro-rated to the hire

Detailed Job Description Children and Youth Pastor
This is a full time position that coordinates children and youth programs from 1st grade through high school. The Children & Youth Pastor will work closely with the Pastors and Christian Education Committee to plan, develop and execute the overall children and youth ministries of the church in accordance with the mission and vision of Cornerstone Chinese Church

The Children’s ministry is defined as elementary youth of 1st through 6th grades. The Youth ministry will be defined as Jr. High to Sr. High youth or 7th grade through 12th grade (senior year high school).

Maintain and organize a comprehensive, unified children / youth curriculum that nurture their spiritual development from 1st to grade 12.

Children Ministry
1. Children’s Worship Service
a. Oversee the Children’s worship service every Sunday.
b. Preparing a short sermon lesson consistent to the goals of the church to lead children to Christ.
c. Work with song leader and helpers to plan and execute a creative and honoring worship service.
2. Sunday School Program
a. Planning and oversight with Christian Education Board of the Sunday School program.
b. Work with Christian Education Committee to provide strong input on a comprehensive children through youth curriculum.
3. Equipping and Training
a. Recruit, schedule and coordinate the teachers and helpers with the Christian Education Committee.
b. Identify training needs and provide training program through internal and external resources (conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.) to teachers and helpers.

Youth Ministry
1. This person is expected to be the regular speaker on Youth nights on Saturday nights.
2. Work to achieve a balance in the youth ministry between outreach, growth and equipping for ministry with the goal of making disciples of Jesus Christ.
a. Growth – Involve teens in ministries that help teens grow in their faith and help them to become Christ-like disciples.
b. Equipping – Provide opportunities for involvement in ministry including care and outreach ministry to their peers.
c. Outreach – Regularly provide opportunities for teens to invite friends to activities designed to reach their non-Christian friends.
3. Recruit and work in a pastoral relationship with the volunteer youth staff (Counselors).
4. Build relationships with youth through spending time with teens in their home and educational environments.
5. Build cooperative partnerships with parents of the youth in the ministry, including house visitation of the young people.
6. Work with other community ministries to youth when it is determined it will enhance ministry to youth.

General
1. The person will assist the pastoral staff in worship services/retreats and other pastoral functions as necessary.
2. Report to the Senior Pastor and meet on a regular basis and maintain a trusting working relationship with other pastoral staff, Christian Education Committee and church committees.
