Title: Oral Bible Translation Consultant-Trainer (OBT-CT)
Reports To: Regional OBT Manager; Director of Oral Bible Translation
Position Status: Full-Time
Salary: $45,000-70,000, according to education and experience
Location: Anywhere (work from home)
OVERVIEW:
OBT Consultant-Trainers cultivate relationships with field-based Project Managers and Mother-Tongue Translators to provide Oral Bible Translation expertise and project management support for new and ongoing Spoken OBT projects. CTs oversee production of oral Scripture by training these local teams in the translation process, walking alongside them as they carry out the process by providing exegetical and technical support, and validating translated Scripture using locally appropriate quality assurance techniques.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage assigned OBT Projects
· Assist with tasks in discovery and networking for new OBT projects, under direction of Field Partnerships staff.
· Support the formation and hiring of the Translation Team (Project Manager and Mother-Tongue Translators)
· Plan and manage translation process to meet production goals in a timely manner within allotted budget
· Report project outputs and outcomes to key stakeholders and Spoken staff as needed
· Assist OBT Director and Regional OBT Manager in developing project budgets, and manage and approve project fund requests when necessary
· Visit projects to better understand the local context, meet with Translation Teams and local stakeholders, and provide training, counsel, and encouragement
Train and equip Translation Teams
· Work alongside local Translation Team to help them learn internalization techniques, exegetical skills, and translation principles
· Guide the Translation Team in selecting appropriate passages and decide the order of translation
· Keep abreast of emerging tools and theories in the field of translation, and actively innovate
· Perform detailed exegetical research to support teams in their understanding of passages being translated
· Assess and select Consultants-in-Training who can be mentored into a regional Consultant-Trainer (CT) over time
· Mentor Consultants-in-Training (CiT) towards becoming a regional CT progressing them through a CiT learning path

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Attributes
· Eligible for employment within the USA (US citizens, green card holders, etc.)
· Understanding of orality as a cognitive learning style and its application
· Experience in cross-cultural ministry
· Solid knowledge of the Bible and understanding of the exegetical process
· Basic translation skillsets, e.g., identifying discourse genres and figures of speech, and use of meaning-based approaches
· Competence in training and facilitation, especially in a cross-cultural setting
· Ability to find and cultivate locally trusted processes to solving problems
· Ability to competently train various groups and back-translators on checking process ensuring necessary quality of the products
· Organization and project management skills
· Ability to use available resources well, including the Microsoft 365 suite of applications (particularly Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Logos Bible Software
· Ability to travel internationally 3-6 times per year
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
· Highly self-motivated, self-managing, flexible and proactive responder
Preferred Attributes (not required)
· Knowledge of Biblical languages (Greek and Hebrew)
· Fluency in a second language of wider communication, particularly French

· A member in good standing of a local church
· Agreement with the Spoken statement of faith
· Agreement with Spoken’s Christian Community Policy
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree
· Bible College or Seminary degree preferred (Bible exposition, theology, linguistics, etc.)
· Certified Bible Translation consultants, or consultants-in-training, will be given priority
· Life experience and/or non-traditional learning will be taken into consideration if the formal education requirements have not been met
