Ministry Opportunities -will be specific to each intern, drawing from the following:

  • 3-5 days per week spent living in a rural community with a Zion pastor, ministering to his community and congregation. The number of weeks will be determined based on the intern’s needs and program emphasis.
  • Teach a theological Bible class in a cross-cultural setting, 1-3x weekly. This would include teaching through a translator. Curriculum will be provided before the intern’s departure from the USA for South Africa.
  • Preach a Biblical message in cross-cultural settings. This would include at least one all-night amaZioni service, with the possibility of other congregational services in African communities. The intern should arrive in South Africa with two messages and/or testimonies prepared. The intern should develop these outlines and review them with the ZEMA mentor-missionary before the speaking engagement.

 Mentoring Meetings

To include: 

1. Weekly ministry debrief

2. Discussion of the coming week

  • discussion of teaching content/preparation
  • cultural and social expectation
  • ongoing evaluation of internship goals

3. Comprehensive midpoint review and final evaluation as required by your school.

 

Financial Outline of Costs that may be raised for ZEMA Internships

1.    Trip fees/transportation: An amount that pays for the airline ticket.

2.    The daily rate is $50. This covers room, board, transportation, and the cost of a translator during ministry.

3.    Stipend (optional): Up to $3000 to offset school costs for the following year, which might have been earned in a Stateside work opportunity.

4.    Final amount to be raised by the intern

  • Minimum: An amount to pay for trip fees and daily rate.
  • Maximum: An amount to pay for trip fees, daily rate plus additional funds attributed to the Stipend amount.
About Zion Evangelical Ministries of Africa

Zion Evangelical Ministries of Africa is a mission with a long history, but a fresh outlook and approach to ministry. ZEMA is not planting new or Western churches. Rather, ZEMA ministries focus on evangelizing and discipling often syncretistic church leaders. ZEMA focuses on sharing the Gospel and God's Word with self-proclaimed pastors who often have no Biblical training. We seek to equip these leaders to bring Biblical truth into the African context. The amaZioni are 80% of the African Indigenous Church movement. The 6,000+ denominations range in size from 50 to 10,000 congregants. Working with the amaZioni, we are together becoming mature disciples of Jesus Christ, serving Him as He grows His kingdom in Southern Africa.  

Though most often syncretistic, the amaZioni are open to studying the Word of God through ZEMA’s ministries because ZEMA shares a history and can affirm the church context without compromising Biblical beliefs. The amaZioni want to study God’s Word! With this as our foundation, ZEMA missionaries affirm what it is to be both African and Christian in the local context.
